Father Christmas left a rather special and comprehensive finds ID book for me.

The book is complied by the British Museum in conjunction with the PAS (Portable Antiquities Scheme) being a illustrated guide to metal detecting and archaeological finds.

Quote: "Once an object enters the plough-soil its survival will be measured in years, not decades, and if not found (and recorded) it will be rapidly destroyed and lost forever"

The dress pin was found in February 2010.

Thanks for reading this post..........Doug.

Congrats, looks like a good book to have there.

Thank you.

Enjoy this book into the New Year!! :research::stars::congras:

Thank you.

There is a reference to Hominid footprints dated to c.800,000 BP in the book.

Having no idea of when the period BP was a quick Google came up with this.

"Before Present (BP) years is a time scale used mainly in archaeology, geology and other scientific disciplines to specify when events occurred in the past."

Doug, belated congrats on that one! Was that find considered treasure by the government?

That's awesome!
I remember when you first found that one Doug, congratulations:D

Thank you.

Thank you.

Yes, county coroner ruled it fell under Treasure Act the and was subsequently purchased by our local museum where it is on display
.

Awesome find and WOW, what a book!

Thank you.

Although the book is primarily photographs of finds there is a lot of background information on the distribution with facts and figures of various finds and the era's of those finds.

There are definite peaks in our history in relation to the time period of finds.(Artefacts)

AD 0-50 to AD 350-400 Roman occupation.

AD 1000 to AD 1700 to 1750. (Note: Artefacts only, no coins included, the numbers found would distort the pattern.)
