Got out to my favorite farm field permission today - keepers were hard to come by during the 2 hour hunt, but I managed to get over a pair of nice ones! First was the Barber dime - a pretty solid signal, showing about 6” down. I turned the plug over, and I literally watched the unmistakeable shine of silver roll and settle from one part of the plug to another! I was thrilled with the sight of silver, but I was also immediately worried...I know that a coin right at the edge of the plug has a higher probability of getting knocked by the shovel. The back was visible in the plug, and looked great! I plucked the coin out of the plug and flipped it over, and my heart sank a little - sure enough, a big ol’ scratch right under Liberty’s eye and down her cheek...kinda looks like she’s in tears from my ham-handed digging :( Still she’s in pretty nice shape otherwise, and better than being 6” underground! It’s my 3 Barber for the year, and every one of them has been out of this permission! It’s kind of funny...I now have more Barbers than Rosies for the year! It’s been an extraordinarily bad year for Rosies for me...haven’t found one since May!

Later in the hunt I picked up a solid mid-tone, and pulled up the tiny button from 4-5” down. Still has the shank intact, and probably brass...it had some sort of checkered pattern on the face that can still be made out in the pic.

All in all, a fun couple hours out in the field
