Here are the records of the birds banded and the band's data reported since 1960.
Notice the geese info.
Almost 5 million geese banded in the last 55 years but only 1.2 million sighted and reported.
Figure in the huge amount of geese that existed out there total over all those years and you can see why hunters love to get one of these special things and the info certificate for their records.
This appears to to be an even rarer find than I thought at first so I am happy.
Check out the numbers on ducks.
Even more of a long shot to get your hands on one of these.

How many birds are banded?
As of January 2011 and since 1960*, the BBL has received over 64 million banding records. Since the inception of the North American Bird Banding Program, the BBL has received over 4 million encounter records. On average, over the past decade, the BBL received 1.2 million banding and 87,000 encounter records per year.

Thats really cool. I found a racing pigeon band last year from 1985. Always good to find something a put a story with it.

Im on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and its pretty plentiful with ducks and geese. Hunters come from all over to hunt on the Chesapeake. I do alot of field detecting and come across them pretty often. But they are really collectible, if they're not the reproduction ones like you see on ebay that look brand new.
