Anyone have any idea what this might be? My sister found this about 12 inches down in an old farm field in MA. She has found colonial items- present day items in the area. The chain is about 18 inches long. It’s made of brass.

I keep getting the "I've seen this before" feeling but nothing is clicking.

The chain is flat punched sheet then folded and linked.
This chain design is Industrial age so not Colonial. The bracket casting also looks very late 1800's up to post WWII.

So more likely this is 1900's.

I had the same feeling. So did my sister- and she realized the chain looked like a toilet bowl chain. Maybe something from the old ones where they hung the tank up on the wall? Who knows! Thanks for responding!

I've seen something like that used to keep doors or windows from opening too far.
