I bought an Ace 250 about 2008. I hunted for a couple of years and had a pretty good time. Never and big finds, just didn't have the best places to look.

I now have a couple of places in mind, some sound have pretty good potential.

Looking forward to reading and leaning and relearning.

My Ace still works like new. The 300 sure looks interesting...

So I have bought a new ACE 400 and have most of the stuff I need with it.
Got a new Garrett digging tool and a digger like I use to have.
New Gel knee pads.
Short handled spade.
GP Pointer came in the mail, looks like it works good.

Still looking for a better pouch, for now I'll just use a cloth nail pouch.

Just need a break in weather. I don't look forward to freezing mud.

Hope everyone has a prosperous weekend.

Welcome back to the hobby. I think you'll like the Ace 400 a lot. I have one as a backup unit and it performs well. Did you take advantage of Garrett's offer of a free pinpointer with detector purchase?

I got what I think was a killer deal from a nearby brick and mortar. It included a cordless headphone set-up. I am very happy with the deal, but I'm not sure I will take advantage of the cordless set-up.

Weather has been bad and expected to go down hill over the next couple days.
I'm gonna try and at least do some air testing and record my ID numbers to compare in the field.

I do remember from before it seemed like location and how well you learned the machine had more to do with it than what machine you had.
At least once you got above toy machine level...

I have the Garrett cordless headphones and love the setup....give it a try.
The 400 is a detector that's relatively easy to learn and you'll get the good stuff with it. Definitely a cut above "toy" level.

Finally got my new rig out tonight for about an hour.
Went next door to an old home site.
Site is really trashy, I knew it would be, but close to home...

I didn't find anything of value. Some can slaw, beaver tail, big chunk of steel.
Only thing even remotely interesting was an old bicycle reflector.

But I did come away with a few positives.
I do like my new pin pointer, it seemed to work fine.
I do like my new Garrett digging tool, it worked better than I hoped it would.
The 400 felt much like my old 250. I like it.

I also need a bit more practice with the larger coil and pin pointing.
And I'm still a sucker for a buried beer can...

A six inch deep flattened beer can gets me every time. Looks like a quarter on my machine most of the time but the give away is the size is too big. I can't resist it though and dig it any way. Grrr, bezel shat shot.
