Founds these three buttons at an old home site. Not sure of the age, but there is nothing left except foundation stacked rock. Found coins here back to mid 1800's.
The "ornate" button has a pattern on the front which looks sort of like flowers, and on the back it has a circular pattern with stars and "v's". Can't see anything on the bigger button. The small one has silver gilding.

Thanks for the info and PDF link. I can see a parting line (new term for me) running across the back of the floral button. I also found a tombac button at the same site. Oldest coin I've found there is an 1871 seated dime, but there must be some older ones hiding somewhere! Would love to find an old copper.

The floral button looks to be made as a casting. I think I see a parting line there. These can be very old and had a drilled hole in the shank.

We are talking the 1600's into the 1700's.
