Happy Thanksgiving!
Visiting my in-laws found this interesting piece in the family room. It seems like a World War I era bayonet with engravings on both sides of the handle. Any help identifying the language and what it says would be greatly appreciated. My father-in-law doesn’t seem to know much about it - he knows it came from an estate sale or an auction. Thanks for all your help! I love this forum!

Thank you. This is s good start. I will continue to research.

Don't know the letters off hand, but look into turkish mauser bayonets. There's a bunch of similar matches in design.

I do believe it's Persian writing on a 1903 Enfield bayonet. The Turks captured many British rifles and equipment at Gallipoli in 1915 so that scenario is more than likely. Nice piece!

I was going to guess it is Arabic or another Middle Eastern language.
One of the characters resembles a 🙂

That was my initial thought as well. The smily face is right before the water drop!:laughing

Thank you very much - just looked mauser bayonets up and they look identical! There is a second longer one as well here, but no engraving on it. It does say 1913 on the blade and a few more characters.

Thank you! I will let my father-in-law know and he can probably research more.
I have contacted a friend of mine who might be able to find out what the engraving says. My guess would be the name of the person who owned it after 1915?
