Hotel San Carlos, Phoenix, 1928.
Thinking like a parking token.
Thanks

My hunch is it could be a turnstile token from Los Angeles' old San Pedro Municipal Ferry Building to Terminal Island. More details on the building and ferry can be found here: https://www.portoflosangeles.org/about/history/historic-port-landmarks.

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in '96 and is currently the home of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. If my hunch is correct, the good folks at the Museum may be able to confirm it. You can contact them at: https://www.lamaritimemuseum.org/contact/

Steve Walker picked up two great items! The San Carlos building is still in
place, a hotel. The token was in use 1953-1958. Mr H Birt has this token listed
and tells us that these tokens also exist c/s H and R. Steve assumes they stand
for HOTEL and RESTAURANT.
