About three weeks ago, I went beach hunting in the Monterey Ca area. This is really not a good time to be hunting our Bay area beaches, but I needed to be in the area.
As I was hunting in the wet sands, I got a nice sounding tone and about 6 or 7 inches down, I dug up this ..... piece of heavily mineralized crud! I put it in my pouch and forgot about it until this weekend.
There was absolutely no visible features. I got tired of guessing what it could be so into the tumbler it went.
One of our club members who is quite the historian identified it as being a watch fob from the 1890s, depicting the "El Palo Alto" landmark tree here in Palo Alto California.
