Dug this out of the yard. After some helpful and friendly communication with a cosmetics museum in Cleveland I was told it was pre-1920 based on the design and lack of specific makers markings. It was still sealed when it was unearthed and contained semi-petrified blue goop in the removable insert. The museum staff went above and beyond answering my questions, so out of gratitude I will be donating the object to their collection for display. An interesting 100 year old relic 10 feet from the house.

I like finding old cosmetics compacts. Even though I have yet to find one with coins inside !
