Tooth pick off the dirt and rub with your finger should bring out enough details to at least ID the type and therefore a data range if not the data itself.

If your still not sure then post a Good, in focus close up photo and we'll ID it.

The button looks interesting. Any ideas on it?

Thanks Walt, thats how I cleaned it. Its a large cent with worn date. The button is colonial and the front has the slightest bowl with silver wash.
