This past winter I took some time to Overlay some maps. And found a small town south of me that no longer exist. Using current landmarks I lined up what used to be buildings from this town a quarter of a mile off the side of the road.

I was able to get permission to metal detect these fields before the crops go in.

There is plenty of red brick glass shards from bottles and jars all over the field.

I have been out a few times now and have come across Indian Head pennies from the 1880s to 1901. The town was started in the mid 1860 s and the post office closed in 1909.

I was able to find some buttons both metallic and porcelain which were laying on top of the ground Lantern pieces and horse tack and what appears to be a bell from a telephone.

As old as this town site is there should be some barbers and seated buried Somewhere Out There.

I also came across some old Rimfire cartridges that are larger then a 22 not sure what they are. And to my surprise laying on top of the ground was also stems off of an Old Clay pipe.

On my trip out there yesterday I was able to meet up with AirmetTango and it was nice to have company while detecting and sharing the time.

Nice finds! I'm working on getting permission for a similar type town, and can only hope that I have your luck!

Nice finds. I would think something new will be brought to the surface every time the field gets plowed, and if you missed anything, it might get buried a bit deeper. Maybe the older coins haven't been plowed up close enough for you to find them yet. Keep at it. Congrats.

Good job on doing the research on this site. Looks like you'll have a place to hunt for many years to come. Congrats on the IH's.

Cool story. I like when a good site/hunt comes together!! You’re going to find something really good there!

Nice finds. Being the town started in the 1860s there might be older coins like large cents or three cent pieces because coins are usually in circulation for around 20 years or so.

Thank you very much my fingers are crossed that is what I'm hoping for. Even my wife who gets tired of hearing me talk about metal detecting thanks something good is going to come out of that field.

Nice finds for sure! I've got a similar town that my grandmother lived in. It was once up for our local county seat, but was passed over for another town. The town is now the community my family lives in, but we know where the old post office, railroad depot, saw mill, and other buildings were. I know the land owner and will be visiting him this week to seek permission to go hunting.
