Hey guys and girls. I am seriously thinking of getting the new NOX, but am really not sure which one I should get. The type of detecting I do is mainly parks and fields, as well as some beach detecting when I am on holiday. I don't do any gold prospecting at all.

At the moment I have a Minelab Xterra705, an ATPro and a PI machine for the beach (CScope CS4PI). The beach hunting is nearly exclusively in the wet sand or ankle/knee deep water, so I will need to be sure that the NOX can handle that.

I will probably sell the 705 and my CS4PI to help finance the purchase of the NOX.

So my question is......Which one should I go for? I know the 800 comes with wireless headphones where the 600 doesn't, but was wondering for the type of detecting I do, is i worth going all out for the 800 or will the 600 be good enough. Will I be doing myself a disservice going for the 600 when I could probably afford the 800? And are the wired headphones waterproof?

There is so much info on these two detectors now that it actually gets a bit confusing trying to wade through it all

Thanks for the help

The wired headphones that come with the 600 are NOT waterproof. Minelab has not yet released their waterproof headphones. (See page 58 of the 600/800 manual, available on Minelab's site)

Your type of detecting tends towards the 600..including the type of beach hunting you do. The 600 is fully submersible to ten feet.

You will also likely be able to purchase a 600 much faster than the 800 that many of us are STILL waiting in line for.

Cheers!

Thanks for that!! Aren't the 800 headphones also not waterproof? Fortunately I very seldom get the actual headphones wet, but I was worried about the actual connection point of the headphones to the control box. Is that connection still waterproof, as I do get waves splashing the control box

The headphones that come with the 800 are not waterproof, The waterproof ones will be sold at a later date, from what I hear the phones will be available before the accessory coils are. Good luck with your decision.

Buy the 800, so you get ALL the features. I have read numerous things about deus lite buyers that were sorry they didn't get the higher package with the remote. Also, the minelab does not seem ( I may be wrong) as though you can buy a part and make a 600 into an 800 like you can with the deus, adding a remote to a lite to make ws4 or headphones to make ws5.

I am going to wait for the 800. I am in no hurry as I just bought a Deus last winter and haven't had much time to use it. Also it appears the ML factory distribution of the 800 is moving pretty slow, it could be summer before they can fill all the preorder's anyway. I might save a little waiting for an 800 to hit the forum classifieds?

Differences

OK, I looked at page 56 and I see all the differences. I tried to set up my 600 just like a video I watched for 5 zones, mainly for coin shooting. I followed every step of the way with the video. NO WAY !!! He was using the 800 and me a 600. I could not do it. There are some very big differences in tweaking the 600 to the 800.

You can get very close. Other than the the fastest recovery speed on the 600 being equal to level 6 ( of 8 ) on the 800 , and expanded tone break settings on the 800 , .....the two detectors are identical in nearly every way that really matters to a coin hunter. The 800 can be dialed in a little further toward the users personal preferences , but the dont necessarily mean the 600 is missing anything important.

Huh? Page 56 is instructions for the ML 80 wireless headphones...not the differences. (Do you have an older manual from the pre-production days?)

Get the 800 if you can , but you will probably have to wait who knows how long for it. You may not even need the extra functions of the 800 , but if you can afford it and dont mind waiting then why not. On the other hand , the 600 has most of the important functionality of the 800 , will probably run circles around the detectors you have now.....with the exception of maybe the gold hunting capabilities of the 705 , and can be bought sooner than the 800. You just have to choose whats important to you. I went ahead with the 600 because I am really not missing out on all that much with it , and if I decide later that I want an 800 I should be able to to sell the 600 somewhat easily and recover one half to two thirds the price of an 800. Meanwhile I have the machine in hand to learn it. From what I see and hear of the 600 , there is a good chance I wont feel that I am missing out on anything.

Where most of us get confused , is just which of these differences are going to affect us personally , and how much. Many people look at a list of differences like this and they may as well be trying to read an unknown foreign language. Without first hand knowledge of these functions and how they work .....maybe a little experience with them , the average person just dont know how to apply most of this information toward their decision. So its then easier to fall back to...." if a little is good then a lot more is better "....which is sometimes the case but not always. The most confusing part of this decision is that many will have to get their hands on one of these detectors and learn it before they know whether they need some of these extra functions or not , which makes the 800 the obvious choice if someone is confused about it.

I am no expert but I do read a lot.

I see some inaccuracies in the few consecutive replies prior to mine.

Trivia..see if anyone else spots it.

Next Month

The 800s should be more available , after the pre order list is taken care of, i am waiting on accessories, the 600 headphones are wired , the 800 phones are wireless and very nice, happy hunting Earl

For me the tone and threshold settings are what I wish I had with the 600. The rest is just nice to have.
