My place of employment gave my family and I a house to live in earlier this summer. About 150 yards from the house is an old spring that at one time had some nice brick work. Inscribed in two different places in the mortar is the year 1923. This spring is in the woods and its overgrown and there’s lots of downed branches from a huge, dead pine tree. I’ve hit the area around the spring 5 or 6 times since moving here, but all I’ve found is 4 or 5 wheaties. Last evening I decided to try it again and before long the nox was hitting a nice 23/24 signal. I dug down into the humus and only 2 or 3 inches deep I pulled out a very grimy wheat cent. I scanned the hole again and was still getting a signal, but now it was ringing in at 24/25. Into the hole again with the pinpointer and I see shiny! Out comes a 1912 barber dime. I then scanned one more time and another 23/24 and another wheatie. When I got home I cleaned the wheaties off and one was a 1919 the other a 1930.

Went back again this evening and all I got was a fancy lid... maybe from a makeup compact? Anyways this place is loaded with trash. It may have become a dump for bottles and cans at one point. This barber gets me to 21 for the year. I also found a mystery item. Before I found the coins I got a 34 signal and thought I may have a silver half. What I pulled out of the hole was a crusty oval shaped, flat object with a little weight to it. I broke it in half and on the inside it’s very shiny and a bright silvery color. It’s definitely not lead and it’s not attracted to magnet. I have no idea what material it might be.

Congratulations on the spill ! I also just dug a spill with a 59-52 gws and a wheatie ringing up as a clad quarter 29 on the nox.

Love those mossy terrain location shots !
Thanks Tom. We’ve had so much rain this year it’s the Pacific NW here.
Cool coin spill! Like the photos as well.
Thank you!
Last picture ?
That’s the inside of the crusty oval thing. It rang up 34. Not sure what it is/was.

Thanks Yooper! Those wheaties will bring the numbers down if there’s silver in with it.
Congrats on the Barber silver!
