targeting with a bounty hunter pioneer 202

Well W-man...I'll give this a shot.....
It might depend on where you have your sensitivity/discrimination set. If it is set real high on Sen and low on Disc...it could be anywhere around your coil. My humble opinion is to slowly sweep your area and when you get a signal, back up and sweep the signal area again. If the signal is repeated, try from a different angle and sweep in an X pattern. Usually, this help to pinpoint directly over the target. I have a Pioneer BH 505 and this works pretty well for me. I have been playing with the Sen/Disc on mine to find the right combination for my area's soil. Right now - I set Sen about 1 O'clock and Disc about midpoint. If I set it too high, I get a really strong signal for iron on just a rusted fragment of nail, sometimes not much larger than a common pin. I'm certainly not an expert, but hope this helps you some. Best thing to do is keep swingin that baby til you get to know her...and have fun while yer doin it!!!! Good Luck
