I found this 30-30 cartridge metal detecting this week. The headstamp has G.F. 30-30 on it. I can't find any info to identify the G.F. Any answers?

Per a firearms/ammo forum: possibly made by CIL in Canada for Giulio Fiocchi, Inc. in Charleston, South Carolina, which is not the same as current Fiocchi of America established since 1983 in Missouri.

Last year I was hunting a 100 year old house and in the backyard I got a faint signal. I dug down and felt around and touched something smooth and round.

A MASON JAR!!’

Hoping for coins or jewelry I carefully freed it and pulled it into the sunlight. It was full of bullets. BIG BULLETS.

I put my pinpointer into the hole and it went off in all directions. I spent the rest of that day and most of the next pulling out 30.06 rounds, many in 5 shot stripper clips. Over 50 clips with 5 rounds each and numerous loose ones. Over 300 rounds.

They are dated 1031 and 1937. No idea why they were there. Spent several more days making sure there were no hand grenades.

Thanks for the info. I found this in West Virginia, so it probably is from either Canada or Charleston, SC. I've got some more researching to do, but I have a direction to go in now.
