Just went back to a large soccer park I have been trying to clean up before the season starts.
Hunting the sidelines only, so far 4 silver jewelry targets, a very cool casino fantasy token and about $20 in clad with a surprising amount of quarters.

I know there is gold out there...somewhere, just too high of a volume of other great targets not to be.
Now I just gotta get one of my coils over it to find it.
Today just for a change I brought out the Compadre.
It likes gold, it loves chains, it has been good to me and I miss the fun I have hunting with it.
No gold but it is a large area and I just didn't get the coil over it today.
Soon I will I am sure.
What I did find in just a couple of hours was a bunch more clad even though I have been draining this place pretty good, a titanium wedding ring and a Kennedy half.
I believe this is my third titanium ring and I haven't found a Kennedy in awhile and opening up a hole and seeing a big coin down there is so much fun.
Definitely a man's ring because it is pretty big.
If this guy really loved his wife and wasn't so cheap he would have bought a gold wedding band instead and I would have found my 4th gold ring of the year today.
Some people just never give a thought to anyone but themselves.
That's ok, I guess this can't be considered a junk ring and digging that half is better than digging 50 zincolns.
Weather was in the 60's, the ground is all defrosted now and the melted ice left the soil perfectly moist so the digging was heavenly.
It was a very good day.

You will hit the gold... stay with it digger. You still need to come to Birmingham. Got AT Pro on Christmas and have found 7 silver and two gold rings. One with 7 small diamonds. Let me know if you are ever able to head this way.

Actually, we are in discussions at this moment about moving back around May.
Probably not permanently but for awhile.
Not really what we want to do, especially me after experiencing the kind of soil we have around here and seeing what kinds of things that are hiding in it, but life stuff happens.
Start getting some sites lined up, I wonder what my F70 is going to think about that soil.
I am sure it will surprise me there as much as it surprises me here on almost every hunt.
Better gather up as much gold as you can in the meantime.
I am way better now at finding that stuff than I was when I left.

I've got a pull tab I will trade you for that worthless ring. Its in like new condition. I still haven't gotten a F70 yet. Just purchased a eight month old Vaquero I could not turn down. All I need now is a Digger 27 Vaquero Log. Your Compadre Log sure helped me a lot. Thanks Ken

3 gold rings since jan.1st...in Kansas? I thought global warming was on pause this year in the midwest.

I found those in between the freeze and thaw cycle we had this winter which was a weird one.

Since last Friday it has been beautiful here.
High 50's, 60's 70's and sunny...might hit 80 today.
Normal temps should be in the high 40's to low 50's but we are enjoying this weather immensely.

Nice finds, congrats! I have been thinking about hunting a soccer field here but always seem to hit another park instead. After reading this I may have to put it on the short list. Thank you again for sharing.

Thanks, glad I could be of help!
For all the hours I have total on all my detectors the Vaq is probably one of them that I have the least amount...lately, or know it the least, anyway.
I used it for several hundred hours back in the devil dirt when I lived in Ala. but I was a newbie to the whole hobby back then and that bad soil prevented me from actually seeing what it can really do.
Then I got into the F2 and we really clicked, the Compadre came out with me more and more too so even though I am not bad with it I am not close to mastering the Vaq by a long shot.
I still use it from time to time, however, and there are some people around here that are pretty darn good with it.
tabman over on Findmall has something like 462 detectors and is great with all of them and he does seem to lean toward using his Tesoros more often than not and he does really well when he pulls out the Vaq.
He does fantastically well with all his Tesoros, actually.
He seems to be a great guy so if you go over there and join you can pick his brain a bit and get better faster.
Lots of guys over there use this thing, love it and do well with it.
atomicscott is here, there and on Treasurenet and seems to like hunting with screens more but he does have a Compadre and likes that one.
He tried a Vaq and just couldn't get along with it at all especially regarding hunting in heavy iron so he is one of those guys that knocks the thing every chance he gets because I guess he believes if he couldn't get the thing to work as well as he wanted nobody can...but I think all that is just funny and entertaining.
He is a pretty nice and knowledgeable guy otherwise but his experience proves that these things are not for everyone.

Amazing thing about this hobby, how you can take just about any model or brand and have almost an equal amount of people on both sides...those that absolutely love it and those that absolutely hate the exact same model.
Different strokes for different folks.

From what I understand if you are new at using analog detectors or even if you are experienced this book is pretty much a must have if you really want to learn to understand them well without having to search all over many forums for bits and pieces of key info about using them.

I think I will have to get this book myself and get back into using the Vaq more sometime, I am always open to learning new things and always attempting to get closer to mastering all my detectors...something that will never happen because even the best of the best can always learn new things.

I am already a member on Finds. I have gotten a lot of good info for my Sov GT there. Still intend on getting a F70 just have to postpone it for a couple of months to maintain peace at the house. I was born in Jasper, Alabama but we washed down to Northwest Florida [Lower Alabama] with a big rain when I was young. Ken
