I am hunting a site that was a world war 2 training camp in U.S. I have found cartridges and strip clips from that era. I think that this item is either a tent or tarp grommet. It is a heavy duty brass grommet (if that is what it is) and the other metal was heavy (at least before the elements got to it.)
