Escutcheon for the bail post on a drawer pull. Post has a square shoulder that traps the plate and a hole in a little ball end which holes the bail. Back end of the post is threaded and a nut holds everything in place inside the drawer. Two per pull of course.

Good call, makes sense. In fact I recall seeing such before.
