Hello. Is there anybody out there who has seen this or might have an idea what it is? Thanks!

This was found that same day by a friend of mine in the same area. I know this is a badge from us military but is there any way to tell how old it is?

Looks like the right size for a service cap device, so I think it could be as old as WWI. But, could be much later. The construction of the back might yield some clues. The hint of "gold" plating could be a clue. Otherwise, I'd go by activity on the property to determine the date range. Certainly 20th century.

The U.S. Army cap badge is probably WWII era, but the upraised face and style of the eagle and the rather primitive casting of the constellation of the 13 stars above lend it a slightly older prewar look. Those who collect such Militaria would know better, but from the sheer numbers and probability, I'd guess it was from very early in the War, perhaps cast from an older mold or design of the '20s or '30s.
