I found this lead ball approx. 600 yards from a known Civil War skirmish site in East Tennessee. Since I can not get permission to hunt the actual battle site I decided to hunt the area around the site and this is the only lead ball I have found so far and it was approx. 6 to 8 inches deep. Could it be a drop from that Civil War skirmish?

I have attached a picture showing the ball measured with a circle template.

Thanks. I was hoping it would be from that skirmish. I was hunting on the confederate side of the river but considering it was 600 yards from the battle site I wasn't sure. Does this mean I should go back where I found this lead ball? Starting to sound like it. What caliber do you think this ball would have been?

I suspect that a musket will shoot 600 yards, so it may have just landed where you found it when fired from the skirmish site.
Nice find, by the way.
