Stopped by my Rev war spot this afternoon. Corn is up so I hit the edge of the field and the edge of the woods. Found a small buckle, an old Star Shoe Knife, and arrow head and a cool looking brass piece with an eagle over two swords. Posted it in the ID Help section. Has a little gilding left on it. Wonder if it's military?

Knights of the Golden Eagle Ribbon Badge 1886.

I could easily be wrong, but check out GAR ( grand army of the Republic ) service ribbons. Your piece resembles the head piece or pin from one. Neat find either way.

It makes sense that you would find this in PA--the wikipedia article on the Knights of the Golden Eagle said that the society was headquartered in PA, and it seems that is where most of the membership was. Congrats on a nice relic of PA history. :waytogo:
