Found this at an old logging camp buried deep in a marsh about 16 inches deep.Any possible ID would be appreciated IMG_0407.jpg

Are there holes in the two feet on the end? My first thought was some kind of brake for a fly wheel, but if there's no hinge point you can probably count that idea out.
 
Yes, it's a brake pad for a log train. A common find along old late 1800's logging rail road grades. I have never dug 16" down The area here is so rocky, nothing is more then a few inches deep.

My Goodness....Thanks for the ID! I honestly didn't expect a positive ID on this. It is super heavy and was sunk down deep is the mossy marsh.
 
When you have a steel brake pad rubbing against a iron wheel on a fully loaded log train, going down hill, the pads wear out and need replaced. You can see where your pad is worn in the center.
