Share with pet owners you think might need reminding (I saw these graphics online and thought to share them)

It can be easy for some pet owners to forget even when it is a nice 70 degrees outside that the temperature inside a car can quickly rise much higher even with windows open.

Reminder about the heat as we get into warmer weather (see 1st post)

Also, keep up on dog food recall alerts, check the web site or sign up for emails whenever there is a dog food recall -

At all times, but especially during the warmer weather, make sure your dog has a fresh supply of cool water.

And shade when outside for more than a few minutes, their fur can get hot fast in the sun, when I take my dog for a walk in the sun it doesn't take long for her fur to feel warm, we either go back in the house or go to a patio covered with a canopy for shade and we sit in the shade with water to drink.

I'll even add some ice cubes to my dog's water, the ice will melt but will help keep the water from getting too warm.

A good warning as i often bring my dog with me detecting when i can ,I always bring his collapsible water cup and water for both of us . He is a senior now and don't take chances.

Yeah, that kinda surprised me too, but thankfully I have already been in the habit of checking peanut butter labels at the store before buying just to be on the safe side of watching out for any ingredients that seem unusual as I might not buy the same brand all the time if something is on sale.

Since it did say "Food products that may contain xylitol include certain brands of peanut butter…" it would be nice if those brands would think to add a warning on their label like "Safe for humans, but dangerous for dogs", but since they likely don't, we need to keep reading the food labels.

Here is a web site that will email you dog food recall alerts, it's free -

Thanks for bringing that up, some dog owners might not be aware of all the various foods that could harm their dog.

I think most people heard chocolate can be dangerous for dogs, but it might be good for dog owners to review a few lists of foods dangerous to dogs in case they are not yet aware of some of them, and some of the foods dangerous to dogs might surprise them.

(a lot of lists, but good in case some lists overlook something another list has)

Calming stress and anxiety in dogs from fireworks and other loud noises

On another thread someone mention how stressed their dogs get from fireworks noise, so I figured I'd share the online research I posted there here also.

Thankfully we live in a semi-rural area so for the most part the fireworks sounds seem fairly distant, though occasionally they might sound closer, having the background noise of the window air conditioner helps too. (our dog gets nervous when she hears loud thunder and I need to reassure her, fortunately we don't usually get loud thunder real often)

I did a search and besides trying background noise like louder TV volume, ect to camouflage the fireworks noise, if that don't work there seems to be many positive reviews of using music made just to calm dogs.

Beware of mushrooms growing in your yard !

MUSHROOM ALERT - SOME ARE VERY POISONOUS TO DOGS !

If you ever notice any mushrooms growing in your yard I would remove them as soon as you notice them (they can pop up fast) just in case they might be poisonous ones. I occasionally get some pop up in my yard, I removed 3 yesterday just to be on the safe side.

I was reading where dogs might be attracted to eat some of them and it can be very serious if they do. Just wanted others to be aware in case they were not already.

Here is one web site I just found online yesterday in doing more research:

Mushroom Poisonings in Dogs and Cats

https://namyco.org/mushroom_poisonings_in_dogs_an.php

Don't take any chances, use a shovel to completely remove any mushrooms growing in your yard just in case they might be poisonous.

....and please check your yard often as they can pop up fast !
