So my buddy sent me a picture of a silver spoon that he found at an old sight we’ve been detecting. This spoon has a picture of a mansion imprinted on it. This mansion on the spoon was the home that was built there in 1856. The home was destroyed in 2005 by hurricane Katrina. I just thought I’d share this with you guys as I found it to be a very interesting piece history for our area.

Any history of the home being used as a museum? Or, a nearby museum that featured the house? The quality is too good to be a modern tourist item, but maybe 40+ years ago?

I’ll look more into that and get back to you tomorrow on that ToySoldier! All I know at the moment is they were using it for weddings and events up until it was destroyed, for how long I’m unsure though. There is a museum beside the land but I don’t believe it has anything to do with the home. Also to me it looks like the spoon pictures the house before some slight remodeling. I’ll see what I can find out and maybe that well help age it!

Amazing spoon. I bet a collector out there would part with some significant coin to own that one.

Heck I would if I had spare cash and I’m not even close to the area, I just think it’s cool

So, I did some digging (ha!) and the home was bought by the city in 1975, rehabbed, and and turned into a museum and community center. It had not been lived in as a private residence for several years prior to that due to Hurricane Camille.

I would conclude that this is a souvenir spoon dating to the late 1970s or 1980s.

Awesome digging! I wasn’t sure I left enough info in the thread for the home to be found but I should have known with the smart guys in here that it could be found. Just don’t go stealing my spot now! Just kidding. The guy who found it said there is a makers mark (MM) that was traced back to the 19th century. The picture he sent me isn't very clear but I will post it anyways.
