I found this curious object in the tailings of a groundhog hole on a very old ranch/farm. The hollow end is round and smooth. It is not a key. The little bump on the top is not an eyelet. It is solid. Please help me figure this out.

My first thought is a flag finial. Those are some odd markings on it. Hopefully someone will recognize them. Cool find.

Man, I think those are space alien symbols ... or maybe Native American ?

No clue as to purpose, thought it certainly seems decorative, versus utilitarian.

Next guess ?

I am thinking with the eyelet and decorative markings it could possibly be Wind Chime related.. Regardless Nice find !!

Now welcome aboard and where in Southern Oregon are you?

edit: Just re read your post where you say the eyelet is solid.. are you sure it is not just full of Rust?

would say it is some type of key. the end seems to be oval in shape which may fit a pin the same shape in a chest lock or such.

Grants Pass

I'm in Grants Pass. That little hole at the top is just an indent. It does not go through.

Cool interesting find. I thought maybe a sheep herders staff top but they usually have an open hook and are larger. Seems to be a finial of some sort maybe: iron fence or gate, weather vane top, curtain rod end, staff or tall walking stick.
Maybe the hollowed out spot held a gem or stone.
Either way great piece.

is it my eyesight or does the bottom picture look like it has a different metal inside? Very interesting find. Truly amazes me the items this hobby produces.
