This one stumps me

I found this at a colonial age house so it could be anywhere from a year to 250 years old. It has no threads or secondary holes. Looks to be fairly old and is made of brass. Quarter is for size reference.

Looks like an Ox knob to me even though there are no threads. Other then that, a final from a piece of furniture?
 
Looks too big for an Ox Knob.
Furniture finial look right. Like off the post of a brass bed or the ends of curtain rods.
