I just bought this XLT with a bad LCD display for $100 on an eBay auction. Since I have years of electronic repair experience I was hoping the problem was created by either connections or corrosion. Alas, it appears that it needs a new LCD module. I did some research before I bid on this, and from this site, I learned that many others have had the same complaint. Also, many years ago the XLT LCD version was no longer available but the DFX LCD display was a viable option.

I noticed that there hasn't been any newer posts addressing this issue. Does anyone know if the DFX option still exists? I also wonder if the replacement cost will so high to make me wonder if paying $100 was a bad investment.

One more thing, has anyone ever replaced the dot matrix drivers for the LCD Display? I am thinking about ordering what I feel is the suspect IC. This is the master driver and it controls the horizontal rows. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1PCS-HD612...231848?hash=item3fab8f40e8:g:q9wAAOSwWGxaomBE

I have tested the MD and other than the display, it appears to be functioning properly. It isn't connection problems with the ribbon connectors or the LCD elastomeric connectors (zebras). I checked the power sources and they are present, clean, and solid.

The display on my XLT is also fading but it still works. I read that broken detectors repairs them using the DFX parts. The XLT is a good detector. In all of the years that I have had mine I still haven't figured out all of it's features. Whites told me they could fix mine but it would cost around $250.00.

My XLT display replaced in 2018

I sent out my XLT in January of 2018, to the East Coast Factory Authorized repair center for White's detectors (Centreville Electronics, in Manassas, Virginia). My LCD display was showing signs of "XLT age", meaning that several horizontal lines of display information were blanked out. The machine still worked, but I was tired of the bad display and figured it was just going to get worse.

I got a call from them a week later with the repair estimate ($142.80). This is to replace the display, clean up the motherboard, replace one battery terminal, replace the foam arm-cuff pad and the end cap on the top of the shaft. There is a $70. minimum for repairs.

Their web site is http://www.centrevilleelectronics.net/ They have a printable repair order submission form.

EDIT: Just noticed that you're on the WEST Coast. According to the Whites web site for Tech Support, the White's factory does the repairs for the west coast, Southwest and Mid-West. See https://www.whiteselectronics.com/device-care/find-a-service-center/

Good luck figuring out your problem.

Jim
