So, today I had an hour to hunt before I had to get home, so I went curb hunting. I was hitting a curb that wasn't producing much. Nothing but clad. Then I got a 26-27 on the Nox and I was sure that I had struck silver. When I dug the plug, I found this token. It was so corroded and covered in muck, I couldn't read anything but the N. Y. City. So I knew that it wasn't from around here.

I got it home and did a lot of scrubbing. Come to find out, it is a 5 cent aluminum token for the City Prison known as "The Tombs" in Manhattan. Department of Corrections New York City.

For some reason, it has a "V" stamped over one of the fives.

Not able to find much out much about it other than they used them in the early part of the 20th century.

All I can figure is an ex-con brought it with him to Florida back in the day.
