Hi all. I was detecting at an 1800’s house yesterday and recovered this button. I was able to ID it when I got home, but there’s an issue. The back is rusted out iron. I located another one on eBay that appears to have an iron backside. I’ve heard that basically they didn’t use iron due to possibly staining the uniform. Makes sense. But If it was a fashion replica, would it be the exact design of the original? Seems like a pretty specific design to be replicating for a winter coat. I don’t know. Anyone have any insight? Thank you.

* Also it is exactly 1 1/8”. As are authentic buttons of this type.

With the back rusted out, I believe that it would be a civilian copy.

Thanks fellas. I figured it probably was a replica, but had to ask. Appreciate your input. 👍
