I found this on a plot with a house built in the 1800’s. It was torn down in the 1980’s. It had a well and an outbuilding. We found saw blades, telephone cord, pots, basically everything they bulldozed. A lot of stuff buried. I found coal near the coal shoot. We found bike parts too. I think it’s dumb to bury everything but I guess it’s more expensive to haul it out. Any idea what this is?

They used to have one similar to that with a head on the other end also, and it came with your new tractor. Just a guess.

I've seen some coal shaker handles and wood burning stove lid lifters shaped like that before too.

It looks like either a removable adjustment handle from an old milling machine or lathe (I can’t remember the actual name for them) or an old box end valve wrench. Both would be pretty common in a farm setting. The picture is a box end valve wrench. It’s pretty far gone to tell, but a third option is a crank handle from a grain mill or meat grinder type operations those are usually offset or thicker on one side. Without the opposite end intact to see if there’s a hole for a handle, it’s impossible to tell.
