I’ve been hunting this field for many years (South Jersey) and I’ve found mid-1800 relics, coins, etc. I’ve probably hit this field 30 or so times. It’s my go to spot when I don’t have any new places. Anyway, the last 5 or so times that I hunted this field, I walked away with shotgun shells - all garbage. I haven’t been out detecting in awhile so I decided to do a night hunt...after about 2 hours, I found a few relics (flat button, buckle and a wheat penny). It started to rain and as I was walking back, right in the middle of the field, I find this little guy. I couldn’t believe it - 1853 gold dollar. You just never know. I can’t believe how tiny this coin is. It’s amazing how dirt and soil just slides off this coin - this is how I found it. Minelab Etrac!

Congratulations on your incredible find! It's really in great condition, too. :clapping: That's one fantastic recovery! :woot:

Great find but I want details! What detector, coil used, settings,ID? I’m sure I’m not alone wanting to know these things. Anyway you hit the jackpot! Now go buy a lottery ticket! Congratulations!

Looks like you just financially justified many hours of metal detecting and paid for your detector! Congratulations, I would love to find a gold coin someday!
