coin guys...need some help...

My question is: Who said that one is worth way more than the other? And what are the "values" for each?

Coin guys on coin collecting forums that specialize in error coins.
Mine ended up to be run of the mill worth only a few cents but others mentioned the error variety could go for way more depending on the condition.
Here is an MS64 rated one of the error variety that sold for $550 canadian.
Not offered, sold for that amount.

Error coins are a whole different world because of the rarity of some of them, both USA coins and foreign types, but the knowledge you have to have to notice and identify many of them can be daunting.

I am still looking for a possible 6th 1913 V nickel...becoming an instant multi millionaire would be fun...

If not that I have a 1944 no P counterfeit Henning nickel still high on my bucket list.
Not worth a ton but owning such a sweet oddity from history would be very cool.

Hi All ! :tiphat:

Here's a couple of sources I found on an Internet Links page, in answer to my Q below. However, I don't think these would be considered the absolute final authority. Does anyone know who that might be, i.e. the name or e-mail address ?

Q: What source says the last A in GRATIA pointing to a denticle on the obverse of a 1949 Canadian penny is worth more than the last A pointing between denticles?

A: Source #1: http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/cdcent.htm

For 1949 the A between denticles (also known as the A off denticles) is common while the A to denticle scarcer.
"As indicated by values below"...remark in quotes added by ToddB64.

1949 A off denticle .................... AU-50 $ 1.00

It is either a common date, or it is a common date with a scarce variety.
In 1949 there are several varieties. The main one is to look at the last "A" in "GRATIA" on the obverse, and if the last "A" is pointing at a denticle instead of between a denticle then your coin is worth around 40 - 500 $ If your coin is pointing between denticles, then it is common and worth a couple dollars, unless it is a very high grade.

It was fun reading about this coin. What is amazing is that people actually care if the top of the A points to a denticle or is between denticles 500 bucks worth (Canadian)

such a person might be crazy enough to spend their time digging corroded zinc cents out of the ground.. like I sometimes do. :jester::giggle:

KT don’t forget silver proofs from 1992 on up. And now they are minted in .999 fine silver and no longer 90%!

Of course, amc rulz, but being made for collectors, those coins rarely get dropped by the public, but sometimes get bank dumped by ignorant relatives from inheritances. Much more likely to find a silver proof in a bank roll than in the ground! Just like the 70S.:D:D
