Found a Hancock/English campaign token from 1880 the other day. My deed goes back to 1885 but construction in the house says its older. This find says someone and likely the house was here at least 5 years earlier than the deed. Works for me. If there's interest I'll post a pic.

That sounds like an interesting piece of history. Congrats on the find! I'm interested in seeing a photo! :photo:

It must be neat to have some older property right at your fingertips. When I've detected my yard (which isn't nearly as old as yours), the random items that I find have sometimes left me wondering... "How did this end up here?" It can be kinda fun to speculate!

Okay, here they are. The lighter areas around the features are what's left of the gilt, not dirt. The green is the patina on the copper. I left that on there. There was another token issued with just Hancock on it and that version was not holed. The rooster apparently is a sign of the Democratic party at least at that time from my research on this.

Okay, here's the house. The ell addition believed to be from 1900. Early balloon frame, west coast fir with 4" X 4" corner posts and 45 degree bracing all around. Original section square nails in all construction. Addition all round nails.
