I found this 1956-D wheat cent in a bag of wheats I bought. This one really has me puzzled, is it a lamination error? I don't know what to make of it. The bust of Lincoln looks like it just peeled off, the back side is perfectly normal. Any ideas of what happened here?

That is an odd one, but there is no way that could have happened at the mint. Not sure how it was done, but had to be manipulated in some way.

Someone did something to it after the mint, 100% guaranteed. The mint DOES NOT stamp Lincoln individually, and Lincoln is the only aspect effected.

I would think if you were to put nail polish on everything but The bust of Lincoln and dipped it in nitric acid then use nail polish remover to remove the polish I think it would look like this.
