Looking to pick up a new shovel for the 2021 season.
Currently my go-to is a Lesche Sampson Jr. (serrated on one side)
I really like the Sampson Jr but am looking to bend over less :)
I have my eyes on a Lesche 36" T-Handle that is serrated on one side.
I also see a similar shovel in a 31" length.
Can't decide between the two lengths.
The 31" seems to be a bit more money (+$20) for some reason.
I would think the longer one would be the more expensive one.
I'm about 6'2" so I'm thinking the 36" version which I can snag off of Amazon right now for $64.95 delivered.
Any thoughts/opinions on the two different lengths?

Thanks for looking & Happy New Year!

Hand crafted. Really nice. I've used one for years. Lots of different lengths and configurations.

"I also see a similar shovel in a 31" length.

The 31" Sampson, hands down. I have bought several 36" shovels. The Sampson 31" still hangs off of my belt. My other shovels just sucked and were ugly in public's eyes. Way too much visible shovel once the 31" Sampson is used for any time in public hunts. jm2c

I know what you mean in regards to "public's eye". That's why I carry the Sampson Jr. Helps me stay in "stealth" mode ;)
My new purchase will be for digs where discretion isn't a factor.

I recently bought a 31. I’ve found that I can cut cleaner plugs with it than I can with my lesche.

What exactly is a Sampson Jr?

I've always referred to the 18" as the "JR".
I guess it's officially called the "mini".
It's the ultimate shovel for keeping a low profile when digging in public areas.
Sorry for the confusion.

I've used just about all the T-handled shovels on the market, and IMO, predator is the strongest. I've broken the lesche shovels, I've never come even close to breaking a predator. The construction of the shovel is superior, and it has a gusset welded behind the blade to keep it from bending back, or forth. I believe the lesche does not have this gusset, at least, the one I purchased a few years back didn't. Here's a link to the shovel I use:

Good luck with your decision, and please keep us posted!

I'm 75 and 6'1". I have both the 31" and the 18" shovels. Once I got the 18" I have never used the 31" again. I use it mainly in parks and have never had anyone say anything about it. I have even talked to park workers while wearing it. You have to get down to retrieve your find anyway.

Yeah,
I really like the nonchalance of my 18" Lesche in public places.
I like the holster you are using.
I use a plastic one that holds the shovel by the handle.
Hope I'm still digging @ 75. Good for you!
