I had about an hour this afternoon to hunt. I decided to check out some areas of town that I had searched early on with my ACE350, when I really didnt know what I was doing. I remember this particular curbstrip had lots of garbage and all the signals frustrated me. I now use the AT MAX with the 5x8 coil for such situations. This was the best curbstrip hunt for me to date! The 5x8 really separated the signals nicely and I was able to pick out some real nice finds. 5 early wheat pennies, a 1918 or 1919 green Buffalo, Merc dime, 1942 GW, and a really sweet 1908 Barber Quarter. Fun junker ring and a couple things I cant identify. I'll post them over at the ID thread. Thanks for looking. Hunts like this, really make my day!!! HH

Dang! That was a heck of a good hunt! Pretty rare that you see a Barber Quarter pop up on here!

What a great hunt... sweet finds! Sometimes when I can't tell the exact date on a coin, I take a close-up pic and zoom in. Not sure if this will work for your Buff, but it might be worth a try!

Congrats on a fantastic hunt! :clapping:

As a newbie, what are the ins and outs of the above mentioned curb strip detecting? Are there local, state laws that I need to be aware of? Can I hunt it anywhere? This forum is very interesting as I learn something new every time I log in. Thanks to all who have gone before.

Curb strips are between the street and the sidewalk. The area is highway right of way. But home owners are required to keep it mowed. Some home owners think that they own that piece of property. You may run into home owners who get highly agitated that you are "Digging" on their property Just move on.

Yep. I just move on if asked to leave. I seek out curbstrips in front of old apartment complexes or old houses that have been converted to multi units. Less chance of some owner bustin' your balls about digging in "Their" yard. Hardly ever worth explaining the right a way or that the city owns the area. I just smile and move on.

Awesome job, SW - that's a heck of a good curb strip you're on to there! Great finds, especially that Barber - and I love the "just out of the hole" shots...beautiful stuff

Awesome hunt! That barber is in real nice shape too! That's why I love curb strips!

That barber quarter is in great shape too, congrats!

Thanks! The Barber quarter was quite the surprise. There's nothing like picking that silver coin out of the dirt and realizing that it's not the GW you thought it was going to be! It's only the second Barber quarter I've ever dug!

Congrats on an exceptionally great hunt ! Nice reveal pictures also !

Thanks! I also enjoy others dirty reveal pics. I always carry my cell phone with me and snap a quick picture when I see something interesting in the hole. I actually went back to the area last night. Heres a pic of another merc I found by the moonlight (and a little bit of streetlight)

Another beautiful shot and another great coin ! Nice work and congrats once again . I envy that you have an area that you are confident you can hunt at night without the Cops being called or being robbed ,murdered or whatever!
The rising cost of living here is helping to fuel a lot more crime recently ( days aren't that safe either ) . Lots of out of town punks commuting in and out to do their thing .Keep up the good work !
