just saw the edge of this thing and at first thought I hit the jackpot. Alas not today, still a neat find though

I was detecting a city park that at one time was a school. Dug a coin target and I can see a gold coin edge in the dirt. With trembling fingers I carefully extracted the coin from the dirt. I was then totally devastated to see that it was a clad quarter that had been gold plated.

I too have been fooled by a French franc

STILL.. pretty cool find.. much better than a a clad quarter !

Dang.. I did the same on a 1990 Mexican $100 coin. When they "revalued" their money it made it worthless other than getting my heart pumping!
