Neighbor wants me to help search for a passed on relatives, possibly hidden pistols in an attic. With somewhat recent blown in insulation, last 5-8 years or so.

what would be a good discrimination setting to loose the nails. Apparently they cant find where this old guy hid them, from 20 years ago.

Prob a wild goose chase, but you never know and that's half the fun.

Cant help with that...but some blown in insulation may have powdered aluminum mixed in with it as an extra heat repeller...also some homes had older aluminum foil covered fiberglass and the blown in insulation it used as a cover

Your probably right about the wild goose chase, us why don't you swing over a few known nails in the attic and notch those signals out. Since none will be rusty with a halo, they should have extremely similar VDIs and should be fairly easy to notch out.
