Well, had an unexpected day off and decided to scout a couple areas I found in VA with Google Earth. About 2.5 hour trip. Beautiful day up there and much cooler than TN!

Confirmed an old school needs to be hunted. Gotta go on weekend since school is in session and little school is in its 100th year of continuous use. Middle of nowhere so probably hasn’t been beat to death.

Stopped in a town JD and I have had success knocking. Got a permission right away. Spent 4 hours in the yard. EMI was bad and lots of trash, but I pressed on.

Got the ugliest thinnest Barber Dime I’ve ever found in plug with 1911 and 1919 wheats. The second ugly was a Standing Lady, 1926. First SLQ I’ve dug in over 2 years! Woot.

Had an 1897 Injun, #14 for the Tribe, in my wheat pile. Total of 12 wheats with 1910, 1913, 1916, 1917 and 1919 as oldest.

As for relics I got a very nice N&W (Norfolk & Western RailRoad) Brass Button. Back mark is Marshall Fields & Co.

Got a Silver Plated flat button with back mark that says Warranted Triple Plated.

Virginia continues to be good for me when I make it up there.

Wow...those two are rough looking, but never-the-less very good silver finds and the rest too...congrats!

Thanks Jak. Lol, definitely two of the roughest silvers I’ve ever dug!

Man! I hope that old school you found pans out! That could be your site of the season! So a guy will have to get up super early and be there Sun Am at dawn you figure?..Or put it off until Thanksgiving vacation and ransack it royally?

Whatcha gonna do? Just curious how you go about strategizing a hunt...

You can never argue with silver, in any form. Nice hunt!

Thanks cd. Yep, always good to see silver in the plug.

Thanks Mud. It’s a 2.5 hour one way trip. Probably head up very early on a Saturday morning and hunt it all day. Probably bring at least one other digging buddy so we can really give it a going over. If school doesn’t work out there are a few older homes worth knocking.
