My brother in law bought a 1960 house to work on and flip. He always let's me take a go at his house flips' yards. I usually find a little silver at the 60s era yards. Today was no exception. Most if the clad change was from the 60s and 70s. Managed a 1949 wheat penny and a 1953 Rosie. Couple keys. I usually find a hose nozzle. Not today. Brings my silver coin count FTY to 91. 100 is in sight.

Don't discount those 50s and 60s era yards. They usually have a little silver in them. Thanks for looking.

Good post. You're right about the yards of the post WWII era. The late 1940s to the early 1960s was about the most prosperous times in the USA. Prior to the 1940s (the depression and earlier) kids simply rarely had coins in their pockets. But after WWII, with the economy prospering, kids all started having change. One reason for this was the school lunch and milk programs , where every kid started to carry his nickel or dime to school for the milk and/or lunches.

I grew up in a neighborhood where all the houses on our block were blt. @ 1958 to 1960-ish. And when I got into md'ing as a kid, I could merely go up and down my block, hitting all my neighbors yards, and , yes, got silver and wheaties. Nothing terribly exciting . Just merc's roosies, and a silver washington or two. But it was a good place to "cut your teeth" :)

Wow - you're definitely close to achieving that goal! Congrats on the silver, wheat cent, & cool keys. And thanks for the insight on 50s and 60s yards... I'm still in search of the illusive silver!
