Let's see it everyone! I want to see your favorite find that relates to local history in your area! Mine has to be an old blue beer bottle I found while detecting in the Tygart River in Philippi WV! If you're in that area there's some civil war history and you can find lots of bottles I've been told by my old boss. His kids and grandkids use to find old bottles like this in the river right behind his house! The bottle is from Reymann Brewing Co. Wheeling, WV. Which isn't too far from where I found it and I would travel to wheeling for work every once in a while doing inspections with the Department of Environmental Protection while I was an intern. I love the thick old glass and the bubbles in it!

This is a pin i found in my yard in 2013. I was told is was issued to people who donated to the war effort WW2. The button was found with it,not sure if it related to who had the pin.

Two items. The first is a souvenir medal from the dedication of our town square monument. The second is a GAR Civil War Veteran’s lapel button.

I don't know how old Old Reading Beer is, but I like finds like this. Reading is a town in the next county over, best known for the "Reading Railroad" of Monopoly.

I dug this local bitters around 1978 when I was 16. CE Webb came to town about 1867 and had one of the largest and finest drugstores in central Michigan. I date this bottle to about 1880. The bottle shown in auction is not mine.

A pretty rare $1.00 coal scrip token...rated R7 on most token scales which usually means 20 or less known in existence.
In very decent shape, too, manufactured by the Osborne company.
Probably from the 1920's-1930's era.

I have found plenty of coal mine checks around here, small brass or copper tags with numbers used to check out tools, lamps and other things plus placed on boards at the entrance of mines to keep track of workers when they go underground which are also great to find.
However, there is no other item I can think of that represents such an important piece of history of my state any better than this one.

My detecting buddy found this cool spoon last year on the property of an old mansion that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Found this amazing souvenir token several months back in an old park South of Seattle. I'm including a cool old picture of the building on the reverse too which no longer exists. Probably my favorite 2020 find.

My first relic was a GAR civil war medal!

I found a GAR Civil War medal here on a local farm in 2019, it's one of my favorite local finds.

We've always had a large military presence here in SE Virginia so I find a lot of local military related relics.

And look at the bright side: The next time you're in Chicago, and want to take a horse down a busy street, you now have a LICENSE to do so. Any busy-body that gripes, all you gotta do is show them that license, and they'll let you resume your horse-ride
