I found a 1929 wheat penny today. At first you could read the date but after running it under water and cleaning the grime off, the date was unreadable. This is my oldest coin and I would appreciate if someone shared a method to make the dates on wheats readable again.

Keep at it...

A 29 wheat will be pothole filler, for a silver road...

I have found the best way to clean copper and brass without taking off the patina, which a lot of times holds the detail, is to us a brass brush. Dry brushing is the best way to start.
Keep in mind that dug wheats will not be valuable unless they are really key dates.

I just cleaned a 1944 Aussie Penny, used hot peroxide, and after a few good soaks, rinsed and dried it. To combat the flat/dull finish, I rubbed it with a bit of olive oil and wiped-off the excess.
