I tend to bring many things home while detecting...

That is not one of them...

Looks like a piece of brake line, or hydraulic line?

Often referred to as a leaveright by folks here...

Sort of like leaveright where you found it...

Give your fiance a magnet, and say if it sticks to this it's most likely a leaveright...

I'm not sure if it is solid throughout... it is pretty heavy.. I plan to try to take some rust off, but I'm not sure the best way to do it

to me, the size and shape, composition, etc. leads me to believe it might be an old t handled shift lever for an automobile. The curve looks to go around the bench seat, and the bottom(opposite the T shape) looks to go into something like the shift linkage. No idea what make or model car or truck, just my opinion.

Oo very interesting, do you have any advice on how I can clean up the rust?
