SAFETY FIRST!!

At our club hunt recently I donated a pair of my favorite detecting gloves. Seems the person who won them was standing next to me and I guess they weren’t impressed with their prize because they muttered “Who wears gloves?”.

I immediately answered “I do.” And they replied “Well I don’t.”

Personally I got tired of sticking my hand into a hole and bringing it out bleeding profusely. Plus the aggravation of getting tetanus shots is enough of a deterrent.

Here are the results of my hunt for today. It’s a massive Avondale riverfront mansion, nearly 100 years old. There is a comprehensive restoration going on with over 30 workers.

I don’t know how much of this was dropped by the original workers or the current ones but it is EVERYWHERE and it’s DEEP.

But you can see what I collected. Broken glass and bottlenecks. Nails, screws and wire. And trimmed pieces of metal leaving needle sharp ends. And can slaw, of course.

The syringe was dug yesterday but I threw it in for effect.

Also found 2 zincolns and a toasted wheat.

I never wear gloves either. Dont like to wear them in the winter, even to shovel snow or whatever !

I'm a stickler for them too. Very, very rarely I won't but if I don't i'm normally somewhere that i'm only finding bullet casings and whatnot, waaaaay out in the sticks.

I always wear a glove on my left hand which the hand I use to retrieve the target. Hardly ever wear one on my right hand which the hand I use to hold the detector.

You should get a nice sequined one like Michael Jackson!!

I always wear gloves now (mostly to keep from bending a nail back) and still manage to get cut when the fingertips wear out.

I always wear gloves for a little protection from possible sharp objects in the ground. They also offer some protection when cold weather is a factor.

I wear gloves. I prefer the neoprene/nitrile dipped gloves because they're thinner, tighter, and provide some texture for gripping. Hardly notice them.

I do the same thing. And since I swing my detector with my right hand, the handgrip doesn't get dirty. :cool3:

Why in God's green earth would you stick your hand in a hole that you can't see ? Idk. I'm not a pro when it comes to being a dirt digger. If I saw that glass/bottlecap , why not use your tool to dig it out ? Don't even take a chance. Glove or no glove. Seems like a no brainer or no brains too me.

I don't dig with my hands so I have never been cut. I rely on my digging tool and sometimes my pinpointer to break up small clumps of dirt to see whats inside. Only when I know whats there do I use my hand.

I always wear gloves. You never know whats in the hole....and I don't want dirt on my steering wheel on the way home....:)

I always wear a glove on my right hand to help dig and hold the pin pointer in my left hand.

Same here. I also get the target out of the hole with the digging too also, not my hand. A visible coin...well I pick those by hand ;-)

I wear these in or out of the water. Spray em off and ring em out. They last forever and fit great.
