Hello everyone,
I believe I first learned about the "Lost my stuff" group here at Friendly, but I wanted to post this to try to find some more volunteers.

The "Lost my stuff" group, is a group of volunteer metal detectorists, started by John Hawken, who want to help people find things that they have lost. There is no charge for our assistance... we just do it to help people and to promote the hobby.

This is a pretty new group and, right now, there are about 76 members so we are far from having enough people. In fact, we could not help the last few people because we did not have anyone who lived close enough to assist.

When someone loses something and finds the "Lost my stuff" web site, they fill out a form and it sends an email to all the members. If you can help, you respond directly to the person who lost the item and make arrangements. If you cannot help, you just do not respond. It is a very simple system.

So..... if this sounds like something you might be interested in doing, please go to this link and sign up.

You can explore the site and learn more about the group as well.

Thank you,
-Mike-

Joined as well. But only one in WV so far. Some nights, I cannot find my car. But perhaps I can help someone some day...............

Thanks all!!! I really appreciate the participation! Hopefully we can help a lot of people in time.

By the way ---

If any of you that recently applied to join the Lost My Stuff Group didn't receive a confirmation that you've been added to the group, please check that you received & replied to the email we sent to confirm your email address. Sometimes these get routed to people's spam folders!!! If you aren't sure, just send me an email about it.

Regards,

Fogcity

I'm part of the group as well. Not a lot of back and forth conversation to take time, just emails when something is reported lost.

Good folks. Need more of em...

Hey all --

I just wanted to give everyone here an update...

Squishy started this thread back in November 2010. People started joining the Group and we started helping more & more people find their lost stuff. Even as we continued to grow, a lot of folks figured we were just the latest novelty, and that after a while everyone would lose interest and we'd just fade away, never to be heard from again... Well, it's been almost 3 years now and that didn't happen!!!

As of today we have 1749 members in 16 countries! On the average we receive reports for 10-20 lost items a month, we generally have members available to search for 60% of the lost items reported to us, and we've found over half the items we've searched for!

We've adjusted our Report system so our members only receive reports about lost items that are lost in the areas they actually care about. (Members can select to receive reports for any countries or states in the world, or they can select to receive only reports for items lost within a certain distance of their home, whatever works best for them). We've made it possible for members to download copies of lost item reports 24/7, and we've also made it such that members can have copies of lost item reports emailed to their mobile phones if they want. Yes, we've come a long way!!!

Whether you're members of our Group or not, you're all welcome to check us out on our website at http://www.lostmystuff.net.

We also have a facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/lostmystuffgroup.

Thanks everyone for helping us grow!!!

FMDF Folks --

It's been about a year and a half since the above post so I'm way past due for providing you all an update on the Lost My Stuff Group.

The Lost My Stuff Group is a bit over 4 years old now and we've grown to 2416 members in 20 countries! On the average we receive reports for 20-30 lost items a month. Our current stats indicate we have members available to search for 56% of the lost items reported to us and that we've found about half (53% as of today) of the items we've searched for!

If any of you aren't members of our Group yet and feel as we do that helping someone find their lost item for FREE is a good thing to do, we're always looking for new members!!!

You're all welcome to check us out on our website at http://www.lostmystuff.net or at our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/lostmystuffgroup.

Regards,

Fogcity

P.S. The lost My Stuff Group has relocated back to Houston. After 2 years in Kansas it was definitely time to come home!!!

Now you just need to download and post some of our flyers so people in your area will know to contact Lost My Stuff when they lose something!!!
