Don't buy Garret

The key question is where did you buy it and from whom. This is relevant because international warranties for Garrett may differ from US warranties. This info is from the Garrett website.

From the AT manual warranty section...

In the event that repairs or warranty service are necessary for your AT Pro, contact the local retail outlet where your detector was purchased. To avoid excessive shipping and import charges, do not attempt to return a Garrett product to the factory in the United States.
Information on international warranty/repair needs can be found on the Garrett website: www.garrett.com. Click on the Hobby Division and then the Technical Support page for more details.

From the Garret website pages referred to above...here are the terms for international warranty

In the event that repairs or warranty service are necessary for your detector, contact the local retail outlet where your detector was purchased. To avoid excessive shipping and import charges, do not attempt to return a Garrett product to the factory in the United States.

If your local Garrett retailer is unable to correct the problem with your detector, you may contact Garrett's International Service Center in Germany. Please be aware that you will be responsible for the cost of shipping the detector to this service center and also for the return freight. To have your detector serviced by Garrett's ISC in Germany, please follow the steps listed here:
Complete the international warranty/repair form below. Briefly detail the problem you are having with your detector.
Please PRINT your complete return shipping address including your name, address, postal zip code and a daytime telephone number.
Send the detector and its search coil to:

DTI GmbH & CO KG
Service Center
Hamburger Straße 17

Please indicate the following:

a. If you desire an estimate of charges, if any, prior to the completion of the repair.

b. Your method of payment of any charges. Do you wish to be called for credit card information or do you wish to send a check? We do not ship C.O.D.

c. How you wish the item returned? Please make certain to fill out this information on the form below. Return shipping fees are the responsibility of the consignee, not the factory.

Great post!

I don't know if OP is a troll or not, but he raises a valid question.

If an individual in Timbuktu buys an ACE and agrees to pay shipping, both ways, to return a defective machine, why would Garrett care where the machine was shipped from?

Why all the run around?

Happens all the time with many items. If you buy a Niko camera while traveling in Europe, come back to the USA and then your camera needs repair, Nikon USA will not
perform warranty work on it and you'll have to ship it to Nikon in Japan. The reason is that Nikon Japan sells the cameras to Nikon USA at a heavily discounted price, in exchange for Nikon USA doing the marketing, advertising, distribution and performing warranty work, on the cameras they import from Nikon Japan.

A similar arrangement may be in place between Garrett and the Chinese importer.
