why would anyone add weight to their detector?

Added Weight

At my age weight is more a factor than it was 20 years ago. I swung many of the old metal boxes built like a tank so even today I am fine swinging the E-Trac.

The location may not be the best but often good balance can make a detector easier to swing and control. Sometimes adding weight adds better balance.

I put a lead weight on the upper end of my NOX 800 shaft to make it more balanced and it works great. It weighs six ounces but makes all the difference in the world. I swung a 3030 once and it was quite comfortable because it is well-balanced.
HH everyone

The Etrac is so heavy to start with, I don't notice any extra weight affixing my Garret pro pointer to it. It usually takes me an outing or two at the start of the season to get my one arm shaped like Popeye. Most of the time I buy detecting pants that have carpenters' pockets and I keep my pointer halfway down my leg.

I thought about clipping but could not justify it in my mind, I can draw the pinpointer quicker from my belt than from the shaft. I think its more or less a fad, but sure some guys may have balance issues that a pinpointer can help or make worse, I've never had that issue either.

I can swing with both arms, maybe most can too, but that helps more than anything on long, wide open hunts where even the lightest detector can turn into a brick after a while.

I keep everything but the detector in a five gallon plastic bucket. I put the bucket down and start hunting. When I get a diggable target I'll put the detector down with the coil right next to where I'm going to dig, walk over and grab the bucket. Rinse and repeat. A bit more walking but a lot less carrying.

here is my EQ800 set up. Since this pic was taken I have upgraded the shaft and cuff but my new set up is the same. i think it is a big help balancing out the weight of the 11 " coil.
I have advancing Dunlap's disease so I don't want a lot hanging on my belt.

mounting it back near the arm cuff makes sense in improving the 800 with the 11" coil balance issues. But lower down on he shave below the adjustment piece does nothing positive for the Equinox balance issue.

I think those pictures were just marketing pictures of a new pinpointer holder not anyone actually using the device with that setup.

I often wondered that same exact question, I use a z link sometimes and I can feel that little bit of weight difference so I could only imagine a carrot setting on the machine to boot. I absolutely hate x1 probes on anything, when I get a machine used and it has one it's the first thing to hit the classifieds..
Any time you get an x1 that works for an explorer send it MY WAY please 👍I will be happy to buy it from you 😃

Personally I find them convenient, but the Deus II and Manticore are so light that I don’t notice them anyway. I used to keep my pinpointer in my finds pouch, but I am more likely to leave that in the car than I am my detectors. So the end result was that my batteries would die more frequently on my pinpointer since I wouldn’t have charged it (I use the XP MI-6). My attaching it to the shaft of my detector, it was always front of mind when I was charging everything else. When I got my Manticore, I just did the same thing there to keep it all as one self-contained package. I like the convenience of it - I can grab my detector, head out to the car, and take off. I know I have a shovel or a scoop in the car and I always have pockets if I forget a finds pouch.
