I'm prepping to get out early this spring as soon as the ground is diggable with my 8 year old. We've had a weird mild winter with very little snow so might be able to dig early this year.

Anyway I got to thinking about what I might need or want to make our hunts - easier, convenient, and still not look like we're geared up for guerilla warfare.

I don't like to attract too much attention if I can help it. That being said one popular place we'll try to hit is the local reservoir. They let it out early spring to it's lowest point and it was "built" over an old town. It's also a very popular fishing and swimming area. That's what got me to thinking, because there's lots of trash. Beer cans/caps/pull tabs, etc. I don't like mixing my interesting finds in with a bunch of garbage.

I've been just using a small tool pouch, this isn't good for lots of trash though. Other than that I've been carrying just my digging trowel and my pin pointer.

Would love to hear suggestions and ideas of what you all like to carry/have available to you when dirt fishing.

Bonus question: Ideas for tools/accessories my 8 year old son might need/want/think is cool.

For years I used nothing but a roofing pouch and a flathead screwdriver. This year I finally up graded.

My belt is set up with two pouches. One for trash, the other for saved finds. Two diggers one is a Lesche the other is a wide blade digger I made. A homemade brass coin probe for hunting lawns and last but not least my Garrett Carrot.

My whole setup changed when I got the new detector. Now I have the new bag with more room for trash lol. I hunt parks and schools and travel light so just bag, small shovel, pinpointer, Monster, beef jerky, and headphones. This year I plan to hunt more permissions so that will be a different setup and hopefully this thread will give me some good ideas.

Sounds like keeping it simple is the popular way to go. Might have to add a 45 to my setup :-)

A couple of the places I'm thinking of hitting early this spring will likely have considerable trash, both above and below ground. I did have an idea last night about using a small mesh bag I can clip to my belt to hold trash like that (beer cans and such).

I think my current pouch, which is just a small tool pouch, might be too "tight". So maybe I just need to upgrade that.

Anyone detect with kids? Do you set them up with thier own belt/pouches/etc?

I also use my bag for good & bad stuff ! seems like I have far more trash than anything else, but alot to do with my area. Sometimes I will take my magnifying glass with me, but not always., "Always" carry my Lesche digger and Garrett p.p. Oh ya, can't forget my trusty knee pads ! :digginahole: :chaplin::bouncy:
too_

I have my waist pack that has pouches for both trash and treasure. There's also side holsters for a water bottle and my Garrett Carrot. My digger is an old White's trowel (works awesome!), and I also have a gel knee pad for my left knee...headphones too.

380 in my pocket my 40 pull my pants down,(ugly site)
Yep the model 1911 Kimber 45 does also that's why I use a Doc's Ultra Swingy Thingy LOL, that Ultra Swingy Thingy makes great suspenders LOL

That Bunks Hermit pick would do some serious damage also if I had to use it to protect myself and my wife, we do have bear and mountain Lion in the areas I detect, and all that 380 would do is make them mad

The lions will not bother you if you stay away from their young and food, I seldom go to the Oracal area, so no bears, if I go to Sonoita , all it takes is to make noise, so the 380 works just fine. If I go further south then I will take a 40 for the 2 legged invader. The 45 will also piss off a bear, you will need a larger pistol or big bore rifle.
