THE DESU 2 WS6 IS HANDS DOWN THE MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK BAR NONE...

Go for the Deus 2 in whatever configuration you are considering before you even think about an equinox 900.

I traded my initial full deus 2 set up for a brand new eq900. Very bad mistake on my part. With the eq900 and 11 inch coil I had a very bad EMI experience on an outing. Not to mention a few other quirks like double beeping on targets not on the surface and the pinpoint function going haywire during that EMI experience too.

It was the craziest thing I ever experienced with any metal detector. So much so I decided I was done with minelabs.

If you was going to primarily use only the 6 inch coil on the eq900 there shouldn't be a problem. As it IDs good at depth and has good separation. But it would take you forever to cover an area well if you only had limited time to detect. Especially inside of city limits where EMI is common where you would not be able to use the 11 inch coil.

However, with the eq900 in the same area in which i could not use it the nokta legend ran absolutely smooth with no EMI interference.

So I traded in my less than 5 hour field time pristine condition equinox 900 back to my dealer.

I have gone back to XP in which I have been using their products for the past 3 or 4 years.

i have an XP ORX, XP Deus 1 and an XP Deus 2 Master.

I did have the deus 2 full set up with the remote. But I started leaving the remote at home and used it as a WS6 master before XP offered it separately.

As far as the Deus 2 goes I am perfectly happy with the WS6 master configuration.

Maybe Jeff, Screen name Jmaclen, will chime in a bit here. He has way more run time on the eq900 and the deus 2 than I have.

He tried to steer me away from making the trade initially when I reached out to him on his thoughts about what my intentions were. Needless to say I should have listened to him!!!

Jeff was right

Hello,

Been reading for a few days now and trying to isolate the unit I want to buy. I have narrowed it down to two detectors, the

DEUS 2 WS6 and the Minelab Equinox 900. (or any other one I may be overlooking)

I am primarily looking to use it as a gold detector for dry land and shallow waters on my extended trip out West.

Anything you can provide to narrow down the choice would be appreciated.
When you say gold, are you talking about gold jewelry or gold nuggets (what size) or both?

Deus 2 is just fine for gold jewelry. It is not very good for gold prospecting yet.......needs a software update.
Deus 2 can be used with the coil submerged but you have to use an antenna wire since the wireless signal from the coil to the control box cannot travel through water.
Deus 2 target IDs are very stable.

Like bigtim said, the Nox 900 can be noisy cranked up sensitivity wise in EMI. However it is an outstanding gold prospecting detector. Target IDs are very jumpy in moderate to high mineralization. No antenna wire needed for underwater use since the coil is already wired.

BigTim mentioned the Nokta Legend which also is an outstanding gold prospecting detector, does very well on gold jewelry and is an all around sleeper for what you get for the price. The biggest thing wrong with the Legend running version 1.11 software is that it doesn't say Minelab or XP on it. Fully waterproof with excellent, stable target IDs. If you get one get the newer version with the upgraded shaft system and LG30 coil

Thanks all. I appreciate your replies. Gonna take some time to figure out what what some of this stuff means and to narrow down my choice.

And yes, I want to find nuggets primarily, but jewelry and coins are also on my list.

I am a big fan of the WS6 as Master but I picked up a full remote around the time of the V1.11 release since I was tired of so many missing features on the WS6. XP definitely rectified most of the missing features. However, since V1.11 and now with V2.0, the pinpoint function is still not working in General, Relic, and the Beach modes on my WS6 as Master and on some of my friends WS6s. Pinpoint works fine using the main remote in every mode. Hopefully XP will be able to correct that soon.

I did video this morning on WS6 pinpoint issues you mentioned above. Video sent to Owner of Xp,

No pinpoint feature in the deus lite set-up,that kills it for me. I use pinpoint for sizing and pass up a lot of iron, junk etc with that feature. For $800 that's something XP could of incorporated, seeming starter machines at $150 have pinpoint
If U use a deus , you don't need a pinpoint button. A had never use a pinpointer with it...
Just full tones or pitch and it can give you all the inf about size and material.
